So did you my heed my advice and bench Stephen Jackson last week? How about my call on not giving up on Steve Slaton? Hopefully you did and are now savoring the sweet fruit of success. If not, well, there’s always this week. Take a look at what I have for you for week 5.

Start em if you got em…

Marshawn Lynch RB (BUF) – You drafted him and you waited patiently for three weeks only to see him get 8 carries for 4 yards last week. Bummer! Well I say this is the week he puts up some numbers for you. Cleveland is 31st against the run and just ripe for the picken. I’m can see him easily cracking the 100 yard mark and something tells me he has 2 touchdowns in him (that something being a little stat that says Cleveland has given up a league high 8 rushing td’s so far this year – thats 2 per game for you math wizards).

Alright, now that you and I have those pesky bye weeks out of the way, let’s start thinking playoffs and league championships. See if any of these guys belong in your train of thought.

May be available now…

Tyler Thigpen QB (KC) – Not to long ago he was a desperation play, boy has he come a long way. Three solid games in a row. This week he went for 266 and three touchdowns (and no turnovers). The KC offense is playing good right now and their schedule features some soft defenses with games against the Saint, Broncos, San Diego, and Cinci. You could do a lot worse if you are looking for a QB.

Brady Quinn QB (CLE) -He was solid in his debut and has a few decent match ups down the stretch if you are out of options.

Larry Johnson RB (KC) – It is possible that some owner in your league gave up on the guy. If so, why not grab him. The offense is playing pretty damn good, their schedule is fairly soft from this point on and they are pretty much out of running backs. Who know what he will do when he returns this week from suspension to play the Saints but why not throw him on the bench until you know for sure.

Well here we are, one last week of bye’s and we are in the home stretch. Lets see if there are any players available to help you through next week and beyond.

May be available now…

Sage Rosenfels QB (HOU) -If Schaub misses any time, Sage steps in. As explosive as the Houston offense is, he would be someone you would consider starting week to week. Grab him if it is not looking good for Schaub OR if you own Schaub.

Dan Orlovsky QB (DET) – His 292 and 2 touchdowns performance versus the Bears on the road indicates that he could be a decent desperation play next week at home against a Jacksonville team who just laid a big one in Cinci.Oh and he has Calvin Johnson to throw to.

Tyler Thigpen QB (KC) – 280 and a two touchdowns against the Jets and then 164 passing with a touchdown AND a 37 yard touchdown reception (yes you read that right). The Chief seem to be moving the ball and they play pretty weak defenses from here on out.  He may be worth a start next week against San Diego if you need some bye week help.

Tim Hightower RB (ARI) – He is probably gone but check just in case. His first start gets him 22 carries for 109 yards and a touchdown. If he continues to be the man, he will be a decent start almost every week on this offense.

As you head into the second half of the season you should be think about the upcoming fantasy playoffs. If you are in great position – records of 7-1, 6-22, etc – you might want to look over the schedule for your players during your leagues playoffs to get a feel for who has good match-ups and who doesn’t. If you are still battling it out to make the playoffs – records of 4-4, 3-5 etc – keep pluggin along and keep improving your roster.

No matter where you are at, it is a good idea for you to look over this list and see if there are any players that you can use to improve your team.

May be available now…

Chad Pennington QB (MIA) - Two 300 yard performances and an upcoming schedule that includes the Denver and Seattle pass defenses makes him a solid QB2 and a great QB1 spot start. Give him a look if you are in need in the next few weeks.

Matt Ryan QB (ATL) – He’s been on this list for three weeks now. It is pretty obvious that he is unlike any other rookie QB since maybe Dan Marino. If he can do 277 and 2 touchdowns against the Eagles, Oakland, New Orleans and Denver – his next three opponents – shouldn’t be a problem. He should be on someones team, why not yours?

Pierre Thomas / Aaron Stecker RB (NO) – With Reggie Bush out for a few weeks and Deuce facing a possible suspension for juicing it up, these guys will provide some decent fantasy production. I would be all over Pierre but he didn’t really show much earlier in the season when he had a chance. That said, he does have the most upside of the two. Stecker is my choice in a PPR leagues. He had 5 catches for 27 versus the Bolts.

Wow! Can you believe it is already going to be week 8? We are almost half way through the season and for some of you, the fantasy playoffs are lurking closer and closer. Lets look at how you can shore up that roster to make sure you have the best options available when that time comes.

Check out who is available this week.

May be available now…

Trent Edwards QB (BUF) – He is performing every time he steps on to the field. This week against San Diego he posted 261 yards with a touchdown. He may not be a QB1 yet but he could come in very handy in a pinch – or in spot duty – with a pretty soft schedule from here on out.
