Yahoo Fantasy Football Rankings is reporting that the San Francisco 49ers are extremely confident that they can make an Alex Smith trade during this offseason.
With that said, the backup quarterback did not receive much interest during last offseason when he was a free agent.
In order for a trade with San Francisco to be executed, an NFL team must send the 49ers compensation on top of paying Smith the $8.5 million salary that he is owed for the upcoming season.
However, if San Francisco does end up finding a team interested, for example the Cleveland Browns, they can dictate what team they pull the trigger on an Alex Smith trade with, and would be able to keep him from signing with a division rival such as the Arizona Cardinals.
Before I get to this weeks picks I want to share a new rule I’ve made as a result of last weeks picks; never pick the Arizona D as a start. Man what a disaster. They were playing so well and against decent teams. Crazy how Carolina just came in and rolled up on them. Live and learn I guess.
Also this week, I have a few things I wanted to tell you about other than the usual start sit stuff. A few fantasy blogger friends of mine are promoting a a few things you may be interested in. Make sure you check that out the “Around The Web” section (below) before you go because you could win a $50 gift certificate.
OK, so lets get to it.
Start em if you got em…
Dwayne Bowe WR (KC) – I think he is a safe bet against the Jags considering they very near the bottom against the pass (26th). Also, I can’t imagine there will be too much defense in this one. I can easily see a 6 for 100 yard day with a TD.
Alright, now that you and I have those pesky bye weeks out of the way, let’s start thinking playoffs and league championships. See if any of these guys belong in your train of thought.
May be available now…
Tyler Thigpen QB (KC) – Not to long ago he was a desperation play, boy has he come a long way. Three solid games in a row. This week he went for 266 and three touchdowns (and no turnovers). The KC offense is playing good right now and their schedule features some soft defenses with games against the Saint, Broncos, San Diego, and Cinci. You could do a lot worse if you are looking for a QB.
Brady Quinn QB (CLE) -He was solid in his debut and has a few decent match ups down the stretch if you are out of options.
Larry Johnson RB (KC) – It is possible that some owner in your league gave up on the guy. If so, why not grab him. The offense is playing pretty damn good, their schedule is fairly soft from this point on and they are pretty much out of running backs. Who know what he will do when he returns this week from suspension to play the Saints but why not throw him on the bench until you know for sure. Continue reading →
