Holy %#@&! Where did the season go? I can’t believe its December already. For most of you, your leagues playoffs are coming up next week and for some of you, this might be the week. At any rate, good luck to ya!

Here are a few players you can rely on this week and one that I would hold off on.

Start em if you got em…

Rashard Mendenhall RB (PIT) - Oakland comes to town with both the 31st ranked rushing defense and the most rushing touchdowns allowed in the league. Combine that with the fact that the Steelers may want to concentrate on keep Big Ben upright and you have yourself a back who should get plenty of opportunities to put up some fantasy points. 125+ yards and 2 touchdowns doesn’t sound to bad.

Last Saturday night I was downtown having a few with some friends. I went outside to have a smoke and I struck up a conversation with some guy (forgot his name).

His buddies were wearing NFL Jerseys, one was a Redskins “Taylor” jersey and a Steelers “Polamalu” jersey. This of course provided an immediate conversation starter.

First I ask where he was from and he said he was from Cleveland. Cool, then he must be a Browns fan right? Yep! Then he told me that he was born in Pittsburgh and is also a Steelers fan?

WHAT? “No freakin way.” The Browns and the Steelers?

Heresy!

And being from both cities you’d think he’d get it, “HELLO”!

In other posts I’ve talked about being a fan of a few different teams – usually out of conference – but I believe there is a point at which you cannot be a fan of two teams, starting within the same division. You can’t an Eagle and a Cowboys fan,Can’t be a Patriots and Jets fan, can’t be a Broncos and Raiders fan, Vikings and Packers fan, etc.

What do you think? Tell us in the the comments below.

Can You Ditch Your Childhood NFL Team?

I was listening to Paul Charchian (LeagueSafe) on KFAN the other day and they were discussing whether or not it is kosher, or even possible, to ditch your favorite childhood team. Well, this really got me thinking and I wanted to share my thoughts with you.

My Team

As some of you may know I am a Vikes fan and if you have followed them at all, then you know they not an easy team to be a fan of. They have broken my heart a million times, they repeatedly underachieve and do some boneheaded things. So why not just find another team right? I could save myself the heartache and just find another squad with a better track record. Simple right? Read the rest of this entry

Alright, now that you and I have those pesky bye weeks out of the way, let’s start thinking playoffs and league championships. See if any of these guys belong in your train of thought.

May be available now…

Tyler Thigpen QB (KC) – Not to long ago he was a desperation play, boy has he come a long way. Three solid games in a row. This week he went for 266 and three touchdowns (and no turnovers). The KC offense is playing good right now and their schedule features some soft defenses with games against the Saint, Broncos, San Diego, and Cinci. You could do a lot worse if you are looking for a QB.

Brady Quinn QB (CLE) -He was solid in his debut and has a few decent match ups down the stretch if you are out of options.

Larry Johnson RB (KC) – It is possible that some owner in your league gave up on the guy. If so, why not grab him. The offense is playing pretty damn good, their schedule is fairly soft from this point on and they are pretty much out of running backs. Who know what he will do when he returns this week from suspension to play the Saints but why not throw him on the bench until you know for sure.

Hope you are ready to shuffle your line-up this week because the bye weeks are officially here. It is possible that you might be without full time starters like Peyton Manning, Calvin Johnson or Joseph Addai entering week four’s action. That’s not usually a good thing but lets see if we can help you minimize the blow.

Here are a few players you can stick in the line-up and not miss a beat along with a few you will be better off avoiding.

Start em if you got em

Chris Perry RB (CIN) – Believe it or not, Perry has done an admirable job so far this season with little help from the passing game and has done it against some tough opponents. In his last two games he’s had 64 and 74 yard against Tennessee and New York respectively. More importantly, he has put it in the endzone once each in both games.

Enter Cleveland. The Browns are 25th against the run due to the fact that they are offering up 145 yards per game. Better yet, they have allowed 6 touchdowns this season. Look for a resurgent passing attack and weak opponent to help Chris to 100+ yards and 2 touchdowns.

Final stats: 28 yards rushing and 5 catches for 15 yards, 0 touchdowns.

Final thoughts: The late scratch of Palmer had a huge impact on this game and Perry stats.
