Here are some waiver wire and sleeper picks for you to check out. There are a ton of guys on my list because I play in some deeper leagues. I need to look a little deeper than most.
May be available now…
**UPDATE** Ryan Grant RB (GB) - After his showing in Denver he should get at least one more start. Pick him up and be glad you did.
Adimchinobe Echemandu RB (HOU) - Not sure how you say`his name but he looked pretty decent against San Diego until the game got out of hand. 10 carries for 62 yards along with 2 catches for 11. Ahman Green was a last second mystery scratch and they cut Gado which gave AE had an opportunity to show something; he did. If you have a deep bench check him out because ya never know.
Lee Evans WR (BUF) - I doubt he would still be available but it is possible in some leagues someone may have given up on him with his slow start. If he’s not available, maybe he would come cheap in a trade. He is heating up a little more each week and traditionally seems to have strong second halves.
D.J. Hackett WR (SEA) - I mentioned him before but wanted to remind you again. He is healthy, has great upside and will be playing against the Brown defense this week. If there was ever a late season sleeper it would be this guy. He should be the first option until Branch returns from his injury.
Jacoby Jones WR (HOU) - He disappeared after that injury early in the season but he popped his head up this week with 5 catches for 51 yards.
Vernon Davis TE (SF) - He was a hot prospect coming into the season but lost some steam after getting injured. This week he had 6 catches for 72 on Sunday had their only TD. He seems to be the best option in the passing game. Maybe he is laying around on your wire.
Jeff King TE (CAR) - He had 10 catches for 82 yards. May be alright for some bye week spot duty.
Reggie Brown WR (PHI) - 8 catches for 105 yards. He did get hurt in the game so keep an eye on his status if you want to use him.
Tennessee Defense - It may not be to late to pick these guys up. They are solid and have a few games in a row against less than stellar offenses; Carolina and then Jacksonville.
Chris Henry RB (TEN) - As long as Chris Brown misses time Henry is worth some spot duty in deeper leagues. He had 4 rushes for 48 yards and a TD against the Raiders.
J.P. Losman QB (BUF) - He came in for an injured Trent Edwards and posted 113 yards with an 85 yard TD to Lee Evans to seal the win.
David Carr QB (CAR) - If you are in a deep league starting two QB’s or just like quarterbacks that wear gloves, you might want to secure his services. He will more than likely take over this week now that he appears healthy. He had 103 yards and didn’t get sacked in mop-up duty against the Colts. Keep you expectation low in the short run though, he plays Tennessee next week.
Brooks Bollinger QB (MIN) - Desperate for a QB in a deep league? This guy is a loooong shot if both Holcomb and Jackson miss any time.
Sage Rosenfels QB (HOU) - Matt Schaub was injured again with an unknown head injury that was worrisome enough that he went to the hospital. Rosenfels didn’t exactly light it up but could be usable in spot situations in deeper leagues.
Keep an eye on…
Josh McCown QB (OAK) - This is just an observation but to me Culpepper doesn’t seem to be as effective as McCown was before getting injured. You would think that Lane might start thinking about giving Josh another chance at some point.
Kellen Clemens QB (NYJ) - The saga continues. Pennington was benched late in the game with a chance to still win the game. Is this the week they make the switch? We shall see. For now if you are in a deeper league you may want keep an eye on the situation.
A few other resources you should check out are Fantasy Football Librarians waiver wire report and the Bruno Boys week nine waiver wire report.
As always I will be updating throughout the week if anyone jumps out at me. Also, I know many of you see things I don’t, feel free to throw down some of your thoughts below in the comments.

2Corey,
Thanks again for the advice a couple weeks back. Mixed results, but my options were limited anyway and who knew Santa Moss would bench himself and Marv. would remain hurt.
With that said, the byes are killing me. I have Manning and Griese (having dumped young) and both are on a bye. Not a lot of pick ups, but I could get Young back, grab Losman or a few other okay but not great choices for the week.
Problem is two-fold: what QB do you recommend out of the ones available this week on the wire (not a ton) and if so, I have to give up a strong player elsewhere. Here’s my current lineup.
Eli Manning (BYE)
Marion Barber
Ryan Grant (just picked up)
Shaun McDonald (ditto - don’t need unless Harrison is hurt again, which lost me the match last week)
Kevin Walter
Roddy White
Jason Witten
Nick Folk
Titans D
My current reserve is:
Ravens D (Titans seemed a better matchup)
Michael Bennett (surprised me last week)
Brandon Jacobs (BYE)
Plaxico (BYE)
Marvin Harrison (Hope he can play)
Any suggestions are welcomed. Last week I hoped to play without one WR due to byes, and lost by 10 points due to the freak OT pass by Farve and the one touchdown to Cooley that kept the Redskins from being shut out. ;-( So I’d rather make sure I have all positions filled and playing as my opponent has a decent match up (but not crazy good).

3Hi Mario,
Wow. That is quite a list you have there. Lets see if I can dissect it for you.
I actually don’t mind Losman this week (he’s one of my sleepers. I don’t trust Vince Young and I have him on three teams.
As far as who to drop I would go McDonald - recievers are easier to come by and he is spotty - if Harrison can go (which is still up in the air). If he doesn’t it looks like it is between Bennett and Grant. With Grant you know you have a starter at least for this week. Bennett is still an unknown and he did surprise me also (and that should’ve been a receiving touchdown…lol).
That is my two cents,
-Corey

4Thanks, Corey. You’ve validated what I’m leaning toward. Our league is hoarding WR’s pretty aggressively and that’s the one area where I’m always holding my breath due to injuries, so I think Bennett is a loss I can afford most, particularly if Grant steps up, plus next week I get Jacobs back for the season, so I’ll have Barber and Jacobs as my prime, with Grant as an injury backup (and Julius Jones and Ahman Green are still around as a wire pickup as well, just in case).
My line up would be even better if I hadn’t gotten impatient and traded away Wes Welker and Kevin Curtis when I had them and they didn’t do anything for me. The one thing I’ve learned out of this year’s first fantasy outing for me is to watch players over a couple of weeks at least and see how they do rather than make snap decisions. (And don’t waste high draft picks on kickers or defense.
Totally different question — any insight/rumors/ideas as to whether it makes sense to pick up Terry Glenn or Javon Walker again and keep them on the bench? I had both earlier on, but obviously their injuries have caused problems. I’m thinking Glenn will return sooner than Walker, but do you think he’ll be a playmaker or is he pretty much done for the season with Crayton stepping up these last few games (another person I traded away during a slow start. ;-(

5Mario,
Glad I could help. Those were tough trades you made especially Welker. We all make the same mistakes but as long as we keep looking forward and building, more times than not, things will work out for the best.
Glenn or Walker - I think they will use Glenn but he hasn’t played at all and my guess would beit might take awhile to get him into football shape. Walker on the other hand has played this year and had success.
Walker is someone I might tuck away but with Glenn I would just keep a close eye on and pull the trigger when you get enough info to know he will be back and how they might use him. You could use a tool like Google Alerts to scrub the web for any info about Glenn or Walker.
This video will show you how to do that - http://fantasyfootballgoat.com/2007/08/11/how-to-get-custom-nfl-player-news-delivered-to-your-email-video/
Hope that helps you,

6So, I followed your advice and picked up D.J. Hackett. I also picked up Chris Chambers as he appears to be in line for some big games. My other two WR slots are filled by Randy Moss, and T.O. Who should I start in the third slot this week Hackett or Chambers? Oh yeah…my RB situation is a mess! I drafted Reggie Bush and Rudi Johnson. While Rudi was hurt I’ve been ‘working the wire’ and I also currently have Jerious Norwood and Ryan Grant. Which two should I start this week at RB?

7Hey Victor,
Thanks for stopping by. I would roll with Chambers this week against the Vikes. Hackett has a great match-up but is somewhat of an known yet. Lets see how he does this week and then we’ll know what to do in week 10.
You have to start Reggie. Keep an eye on Rudi’s situation Sunday morning because Watson had the concussion last week and even though he practiced this week, ya never know.
If you have to choose between Grant and Norwood, I might roll with Grant unless you are in a PPR league. He has a very tough match-up but he has a better offense around.
