I have been a die hard Viking fan since I can remember. I don’t think I’ve had a Vikings player on my fantasy football team more than 2 or 3 times in 15+ years of playing fantasy football. Why? I live in Minnesota and 80% of a league I am in is also from Minnesota. There is always someone reaching just so they can have one of the Vikes on their team. They over value them based on their feelings. I pretty much don’t even plan on drafting Viking players (Note: It might not seem like having Viking players is a big deal now but during Chris Carter and Randy Moss years it was).
Anyway, what does this have to do with you? Well if you want to win in fantasy football, you need to separate your love for your favorite NFL team from the building and management of your fantasy team. Don’t take players just because you are a fan, take them because you are getting good value by taking them at the right place. Let everyone else make that mistake and benefit from the value they leave behind.
No matter how tempted I’ve been over the years I have held strong and haven’t over-valued a player because of my love for the team they play on, you shouldn’t either. Never let your heart get in the way of a championship season. After all, you and I are into building a winning fantasy football team not finding more excuses to cheer for our team. We all already have a lifetime’s worth of reasons to cheer on our favorite team.

1Fortunately I haven’t had that problem in a very long time living in the Cleveland area. LOL! Good points!
